"Growing up, art took me away from urban decay, financial worries, and crowded spaces to vast undiscovered lands. Art taught me that my magnitude was more than the sum of my environment, while simultaneously teaching me to be proud of the creativity of the people in my community. They didn't have much by way of material goods, but they expressed themselves through their hair, clothes, names, music, and poetry. To create so much when you have so little takes sacrifice and an urgency to live. It's from those roots that I draw inspiration. I am inspired by the works of Lawrence, Basquiat, Johnson and Palmer, because they dare to be honest."
